Two additional, short articles provide a sense of the conversation in the scientific community regarding the upcoming climate conferences. Our discussion will consider the significance of the dialogue between the scientific community and faith communities, with a particular focus on the contributions of Pope Francis to this discourse. The scientific discourse on sustainable development will be considered in light of this new dialogue between the traditions of science and religion.

Development and Peace (D&P) 2014 Fall Campaign – Sow Much Love
The aims of this year’s D & P Fall Campaign are:
1. to promote awareness about the privatization of seeds by multinational corporations, an activity that threatens biodiver-sity and results in the impoverishment of small-scale farmers in the global South, who feed 70% of the world’s people.
2. to take action by appealing to our MPs that corporations should not be allowed to patent seeds and take away the small-scale farmers’ right to sow, conserve, sell and exchange their own seeds. Whoever controls seeds, controls the future of farming and our food system.
Please join us and sign our petition at the entrance tables (preferred option), available from Nov 9 or do it online at devp.org/en/education/fall2014/action. If you choose the latter, please let Felix know so we can keep track of the numbers. If needs be, you can find out who your MP is at www.parl.gc.ca

(30-Mar-2014): Next weekend April 06 is Solidarity Sunday (D&P)
In today’s liturgical reading, Jesus restores a blind man’s eye sight. He shows God’s love for humanity and reveals that the dignity of marginalized people is sacred. The Pope’s Lenten message reminds of this: “In the poor and outcast we see Christ’s face; by loving and
helping the poor, we love and serve Christ.
Our efforts are also directed to ending violations of human dignity, discrimination and abuse in the world, for these are so often the cause of destitution.” Next weekend is Solidarity Sunday, when there will be the special SHARE LENT collection.
We invite you to join in this global Catholic effort with DEVELOPMENT & PEACE to end world hunger and to share generously with your sisters and brothers so that their human dignity may also be realized.

(09-Mar-2014): “One Human Family: Food for All” .
*** One billion people in the world do not have enough to eat everyday ***
During this Lenten season, Development and Peace (D&P) invites you to think about the pook and marginalized who face the injustices of war, poverty, hunger and the denial of their human rights.
Your parish representatives to CCODP would like to thank you for your generosity in supporting D&P relief efforts in recent years. C athohcs in the Vancouver Archdiocese donated $1.2 million of the $10 million raised last year, by D&P Canada, to support relief efforts for Earthquake victims in the Philippines. British Columbians were tops in per capita donations in that nationwide appeal. Congratulations and well-done!
(from Jenny Cheng, Felix Durity)
(02-Mar-2014): Development and Peace launches its Share Lent campaign ‘One Human Family, Food for All’.
This year, Development and Peace has joined the Caritas Internationalis’ global campaign One Human Family, Food for All to end hunger. Cantas is a network of Catholic development organizations worldwide, including DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE, that are fighting poverty and injustice. At the launch of the Cantas campaign in December, Pope Francis denounced hunger as a global scandal. Development and Peace is working with communities in the Global South to ensure that they are able to put food on their families’ tables. Help us end global hunger by contributing to the campaign on Solidarity Sunday, the fifth Sunday of Lent! To quote Mother Teresa:
“At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by, ‘I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat. I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless, and you took me in.’
