Parish Family Hike

Date: Saturday, July 19, 2025

Meeting Time and Place:

[Families and individuals are encouraged arrange their own transportation for this activity]

For those leaving from UBC, we will depart from St. Marks Parish parking lot at 9am

For those going directly to Burnaby Lake, we will meet at the Burnaby Lake overflow parking area. Our planned departure time from the parking lot for the hike is 10am.

This overflow parking area can be found just before you turn left off Sperling Avenue onto Roberts Street. If the parking lot looks busy, we will mark our position by waving a Canadian flag. The trail for the hike is right next to the overflow parking area.

If you register with us by email, we will know to look for you before departing from our rendezvous site.

Parking:  There is plenty of free parking at the Rowing Pavilion

Hike Details:  Approximate 10km walk (2 hours) around the lake.  The hike is on a wide flat trail that is relatively smooth so suitablr for sturdy baby strollers.  The walk is very scenic and the lake area is a wildlife sanctuary particularly well-known for bird-watching (eagles, blue herons, kingfishers, osprey, etc..).

Please dress for the event (comfortable walking shoes and a good sun hat). Bring any snacks or lunch you need for this activity.   There are washrooms at the beginning & at the midpoint of the lake and an outhouse at the end of the lake (see map).   Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be on leash. There are several ideal spots to take a break & have a snack or picnic lunch.   The map provides an overview of the hike around the lake.

You can find more information on the area here…

Kindly advise the parish if you are coming. Email parish.smark@rcav.org
