Ministries

What does the word “Liturgy” mean?  In Christian tradition it means the participation of the People of God in “the work of God” (from the Catechism of the Catholic Church 1069).  This crucial ministry ensures that the Liturgy runs smoothly to create a prayer atmosphere where the people can gather to worship together as a community.

The late John Paul II wrote in his Letter to Artists:  “Art must make perceptible, and as far as possible attractive, the world of the spirit, of the invisible, of God”

So works of art (music included) serves as a bridge between human experience and the divine mystery of God.  From the word “human experience” alone, we see so much diversity and people in various stages in their faith walk.

Within UBC, various groups exist from a variety of diverse backgrounds with the purpose of gathering, fellowship, and propagating the Catholic faith.

…is a member organization of Canada of Caritas Internationalis, a global Confederation of 162 Catholic relief, development and social service organizations that work on behalf of the poor and oppressed in 198 countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, often referred to as the Global South. Development and Peace, Caritas Canada is one of the largest NGO networks in the world.

Food and fellowship is the glue that binds any community together.

Food was also a central part of Jesus’ ministry.  We gather to listen to the Word, and share a meal together, as Jesus did with his disciples.

The preservation of dignity of all human life, and principles of justice and peace is the responsibility of all faithful in the Catholic Church

“The Church’s social teaching proposes principles for reflection; it provides criteria for judgment; it gives guidelines for action” (CCC 2423)

Searching for Truth?

Jesus Christ proclaimed that “the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). The search for truth requires courage, patience and openness to overcoming our own prejudices and pre-conceived notions, so you can embrace the truth fully, whenever and wherever it is found. The late popular TV personality Archbishop Fulton Sheen once said, “It is easy to find truth; it is hard to face it, and harder still to follow it.”

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’”  Matthew 25:35-36
